Miss Phoebe kitty

Phoebe is coming up on 1 year old and being with us for a year.  I am not sure how old she really is.  We rescued her from a couple that found her...well saved her from drowning in their pool.  She either got separated from her mother or wandered off and ended up in the wrong place.  She was in this couple's backyard who had 2 huge dogs that saw the kitten and started to go after her.  She ran for her life pretty much and was cornered, didn't know what to do and thought it would be a good idea to jump into the pool and nearly drown. The husband luckily didn't want her to go out that way so jumped in after her and brought her inside.  They also had 2 other cats in the house and none of their current pets were giving this little kitten a warm welcome.  The couple literally had her for a day.  It just so happened that was the day Jorge and I were discussing how we needed to have a pet.  A dog was out of the question and I was not keen on cleaning up a reptile's living quarters.  So we all agreed on a cat.  We have had cats throughout our relationship.  We had one named Princess who in fact thought she was the Evil Queen from Alice in Wonderland.  She was a big beautiful Himalayan.  We moved and couldn't take her with us so my mom took her and that is where she stayed till her last day on earth.  I have always wanted a black cat with a little of white, not sure why I just thought those cats were the cutest.  So I was on Craigs list that day and up popped up a listing for a rescued cat that needed a home.  They weren't asking for any money or anything, they just wanted a good home.  Many ads on Craigs list were from actual animal shelters or adoption places and they had fees which I wasn't objective to paying but this kitten was talking to me.  I sent a message to this person who replied immediately.  They wanted to meet us to make sure we were sane people (which I totally get).  They lived in our old hood of Anaheim so we knew where to find them.  The kitten was scared and they had bought her a bag of food, toys, litter.  We took her home, bathed her and fed her.  The first week was grueling because it was almost like having a newborn.  The crying, bathroom breaks and being hungry.  I had to keep her in our room for a few days so she knew how to use the litter and know that was her safe zone.  She eventually ventured out and got use to her new home.  NOW...she is a big cat, still small compared to others but she is one of us.  Her favorite person in the whole world is Ethan.  She is so protective of him and they play with each other that is indescribable unless you see it for yourself.  Her second favorite person is Jorge.  Her favorite thing to do with him is sit in his lap while he is on the laptop.  I mean come on...look at that face!  She gets really involved with whatever he is doing.

So of course I am her least favorite person.  It's a chick thing I think.  I am her competition with the boys and she doesn't warm up to me.  She does when I am not paying attention and she is looking to snuggle in a warm lap or hip.  But as soon as I pay attention to her she takes off.  The only time we have a nice moment is in the morning when I wake up first and she is out of food.  She comes and gets me, rubs my leg and meows.  Yup...gets me every time.  After that I am back to being a stranger to her.  It's ok she knows I am the big momma cat in the house.
